Tour Isla Grande de Chilié
Duration: 3 Days
Day 1: We start the day picking up you at your hotel in the city of Puerto Varas. We get on the bike at 9:00 AM in direction to Pargua (about 74 Km) where we will take a ferry to Isla Grande de Chiloé we will pass through the Canal de Chacao (about 30-45 minutes on the ferry where we will take a coffee and some snacks in the upper part of the ferry).
Arriving approximately at 10:30 AM at Chacao we get on the bike in the direction to the city of Ancud (30 Km) where we will visit the classic Palafitos then we will take the W-20 route in direction to Pinguineras de Puñihuil (about 28 Km) in the sector of Mar Brava. Humboldt penguins and Magellanic penguins coexist in this small habitat something that is not very common as there is no other place where they can breed and nest two species together.
Other animals species such as chungungos (otters) in danger of extinction, gulls, caiquenes, carancas, cormorants and Dominican gulls also reside in this place.
At 12:45 PM app we get back on the bike in direction to the city of Ancud for lunch in Hosteria Ancud a classic and old place full of traditions where to eat the typical chilote food it consists in a strong soup with chilotas potatoes and local vegetables accompanied by the classic milcao (ground potatoes and pork rinds). Just to have an idea of the strong chilote food to get warm due to the windy and cold weather of the Island.
Approximately at 14:45 PM we get back on the bike in a direction to the city of Castro (83 Km) where we will arrive at Hotel Enjoy Castro a full Chilote ambient hotel in where we sleep this night. Also, we will take a break in the outside hot water jars in front of the Castro inlet. For the night we can have dinner in the hotel or we go to eat out in the typicals restaurants of Castro like Rucalaf Putemun to eat the classic Pulmai)
Day 2: Waking up early in the morning with the overwhelming breakfast of the Enjoy Castro we get on the bike at 9:00 AM in the direction to Cucao (53 Km) a beautiful beach like no other You can find extensive white sand beaches that cover about 20 kilometers (usar “lago-cucao.jpg”) large dunes and virgin forests with a great abundance of native species that dazzled Charles Darwin by the year 1834. Also we will go to the Muelle De Las Almas a beautiful lookout. (usar “muelle-de-las-almas.jpg”)
At 11:00 AM we get back on the bike to go through all of the Chiloe Island going from the Pacific Ocean to the internal coast in a direction to Queilen (36 Km). This tiny town (its population reaches 1912 habitats) is known for being an entrance to the classic and oldest churches of Chiloe in the near towns of Lelbún and Aituy. We will have lunch in Hotel Queilen. Then approximately at 16:00 PM we get back on the bike to the town of Quilquico and we will sleep in the Hotel Parque Quilquico. A hotel that has a fully traditional chilote gastronomy and it has again outdoor hot tubs with ocean view.
Day 3: Waking up early in the morning and getting on the bike around 9:00 AM in a direction to Achao (36 Km). Achao is a village in the Chiloé archipelago. In this town, we will know some museums and wooden churches. In front of the town square is the Santa María de Loreto de Achao Church, declared a World Heritage Site by the Unesco. It is the oldest church in Chile built of wood and, together with the church of Quinchao, are the only ones that remain of those built by the Jesuits during colonial times.
Then we will have time to visit the craft fair and the Ethnographic Museum. Finally, we will get on our motorcycles to go to the Mirador de la Paloma and thus have a wider view of Achao. Finally, we had lunch in the city of Achao before starting our trip back to the city of Puerto Montt
